Five Powerful & Natural Ways To BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY

Although viruses are contagious, how any virus affects you is often related to your immune system.

1. Garlic. Garlic is one of our strongest natural antiviral and antibiotics.

Lab Studies have shown that raw garlic can kill cold and flu viruses along with a large range of gram-positive and negative bacteria along with parasites and yeast or fungus. The main ingredient in garlic is Allicin and unfortunately, it’s power is killed off in cooking, so you will want to eat your garlic raw. Alternatively, you can take one of the many Allicin products available at your health food store. Be sure to check how much Allicin is bioavailable in the product.

2. Grapefruit Seed Extract. Grapefruit Seed Extract is a natural antiviral, antifungal and antimicrobial. It works in the gut by killing off the bad bacteria we take in or create by ingesting too much yeast causing foods and drinks, anti-biotics, and other bad stuff for the gut, It helps to rebalance our microbiome. I love this stuff! Now I take it on my trips to Mexico and add it to all my drinks – even those with ice and juice and no longer get the dreaded “Montezuma’s Revenge”.

3. Oil of Oregano. Oregano Oil extract has been found to inhibit viruses due to its ingredient carvacrol especially flu or respiratory viruses.

4. Olive Leaf. Olive Leaf has been known for it’s anti-parasitic and antiviral properties since Ancient Egypt. Oleuropein is the compound found in Olive Leaf and although there haven’t been that many human studies done, its benefits against flu viruses have been known to be powerful for centuries. It is said to boost energy too, so what’s not to like?!

5. Elderberry. Many Naturopaths and health practitioners use Elderberry as what they call “the first line of defense”, meaning start taking it at the first sign of flu or any viral infection. It is known to neutralize new viruses and prevent them from duplicating.

All of these can be found in health food stores and online but you will want to check the level of active ingredients in each. I do not make any money from my blog posts, they are just what I do for my health and I am not a medical doctor. You should always check with your doctor before taking any drugs or supplements.

Cheers & Too Your Health!

Dry January Survival Tips

Five Natural Tips to end cravings and feel better today, so you don’t quit

You had great intentions January first – But now you’re tired, grumpy, and having surprisingly serious cravings for a drink.

Trying to go dry in January, the most depressing month of the year, is difficult enough but if you don’t support your body and mind to help those cravings – you’ve set yourself up for failure.

Healthy wine lover to the rescue – Five things you can do today to stop those cravings, get your happy face back, and succeed at Dry January.

Keep your blood sugar up. Often we think we are craving alcohol when we may just have low blood sugar. It’s not a coincidence that “happy hour” starts at three in the afternoon in many places. This is when our blood sugar drops after lunch and or if we consume caffeine all day. (Hence the lines at Starbucks at 3 pm). I like to sip half orange juice or lemonaide and half sparkling water all afternoon once those cravings start.

Stay hydrated, often we crave a drink because we are thirsty. Nuf said.

Get to a health food store and pick up Kudzu. This is an herb that is known for curbing alcohol cravings – and it actually works.

Help your liver with Milk Thistle. While you are there – pick up Milk Thistle. One of the possible reasons you don’t feel well is often because your body is now detoxing and your liver needs help eliminating all those toxins.  If your liver is backed up, those toxins go back into your blood stream making you feel – well toxic. Milk thistle is known for helping to create the enzymes in your liver that are needed to process toxins whether they are from inside or outside.

Take high quality B vitamins. Same as 4, B vitamins help your liver do it’s  job– The liver has a process called “methylation” which is part of the process of breaking down toxins so they can be eliminated. Your liver needs B vitamins to do this. Studies show that as much as 40% of the population may not “methylate” their B vitamins naturally. So for extra help, you can take methylated B vitamins, saving your stressed liver from working so hard.

Start this today and let me know how it goes.

Kate Spades Death Really Bothered Me – But Maybe She Was Just Ready To Move On?

I First heard it in my car, alone sitting in traffic.
It felt extra lonely I had no one to talk to about it.

What was especially bothersome to me is that I have been a little obsessed with near-death experiences and reincarnation. It got to where I have been u-tubing about death the last two nights before sleeping, so it felt really eery and a bit like a message, as I have had this afterlife thing on my mind non-stop lately.
Not that I want to go there – just that I enjoy knowing that this life isn’t necessarily all there is. In America, we are so focused on happiness and constantly striving for a better life yet sometimes no matter how hard we try – and even do everything ‘right’ some people just never get where they should according to our standards. I have been doing it myself since graduating and yet although from the outside it looks like I should be successful in all those areas – I have had more bad luck and bazaar negative twists of fate than anyone I have EVER met. And I have met more people than most after living in five different cities and being very social.

The night before I heard the announcement, I had been listening to Delores Canon non-stop and was looking into studying Quantum Hypnosis. I find this whole ‘previous lives’ thing so interesting right now.
I am starting to understand suicide from a different angle. I have gone through phases like this before such as after reading Many Lives Many Masters, but this time seems so sure to me – the idea of many lives.

Friends have been posting on Facebook about how angry they are about all these suicides and how they don’t understand.
I want to post back my thoughts on this idea of ‘maybe they were just done here and ready to go to the next place’.
But I won’t because I don’t want to get the backlash.

I have known and truly believe we are spirits living in a temporary body. so who is to say many of these incredibly gifted people/souls we get to know while they are here – aren’t just ready to move on?

I apologize if this offends and I’m sure it will – but I know there are others out there that agree.

Hangover Prevention for St. Patricks Day

A common misconception about hangover prevention is that it’s all about dehydration. Actually, it is about many things including depletion of key nutrients, inflammation, oxidation, and more.

Everyone drinks too much now and then, and some of us get hangovers from just one drink – so planning and prevention are worthy causes.

HERE ARE MY TOP Nutraceutical tips-that work!:

• Start drinking water with Electrolytes throughout the day – not just at the event. Showing up thirsty guarantees you’ll drink more than you should. If you know you will be at a crowded place, with long lines, bring your own water. Ideally, you should drink half your body weight in ounces, daily, so if you weigh 150lb’s you’ll drink 75 oz of water daily.

• Eat balanced meals throughout the day – and just before hitting the party, to be sure you keep your blood sugar balanced, thereby avoiding the carbohydrate craving that can lead to over drinking.
• Pack your supplements – Bring your supplements with you in a plastic bag or in your pocket so they are handy and you remember to take them every few drinks.

• Always order water with your drinks. And add electrolytes. Sample electrolyte packets or EmergenC from the health food store are good.
• Take hourly:Methylated B vitamins, the amino acids N-AcetyleCysteine, or glutathione, href=”http://href=””>“> & glutamine, Vitamin C and a good multivitamin but the B’s need to be Methylated
• Take natural anti-inflammatory capsules like White Willow Bark. NOT TYLENOL!

• Leave your ‘before bed’ supplements on your bed stand and Electrolyte drink or Coconut water along with a BIG glass of water on your nightstand, to take before sleep.

Milk Thistle Benefits

The main benefit that this herb is known for is liver detoxification
– which leads to many other benefits. By supporting your liver you support your entire body and mind.

The liver helps remove harmful substances from our blood, aids in hormone production, detoxifies the body, releases glucose into the bloodstream in order to give our body steady energy and releases bile into our small intestine so fat can be absorbed from foods.
Think of it like this – the liver is the filter of our body – once your filter is backed up – your entire system becomes toxic.

Milk thistle has actually been around and prescribed for it’s healing properties for over 2000 years.
It is a simple herb that grows in warm climates and is readily available.

Milk thistle is shown to decrease, or even reverse, damage to the liver that’s been caused by prescription medications, antibiotics, pollution, heavy metals and so on. It helps to increase liver enzymes, which are an important part of the livers function.

By cleansing the liver it helps all sorts of things such as:

Helping to control diabetes.
Helping to control cholesterol.
Helping to prevent gallstones.
It has even been shown in studies to help prevent cancer!
And of course, all this leads to anti-aging benefits.

I have been telling my friends for years “if you only do one thing for your liver and health – take milk thistle daily”

It’s almost Spring – jump-start a healthy cleanse by taking your milk thistle!

Cheers & to your health!
